Alaska and Hawaii Airport Information
|
Alaska has many airports, seaplane bases and a large number of small carriers. Under special rules, intra-Alaska services do not have to be reported to the U. S. Department of Transportation, therefore services do exist that are not necessarily listed on any central registers.
Many Alaskan airports are built near seaplane bases to accomodate the transfer of passengers and cargo. Some airports even include a water course for floatplanes. This creates some confusion with the airport codes. Many times, air traffic to both the airport (or several airports) and the seaplane base are combined and reported using the "postal code" for the community.,
